"The New Wineskin" Print
"The New Wineskin" was painted in response to the scripture in Matthew 9:17, "And no one puts new wine into old wineskins. For the old skins would burst from the pressure, spilling the wine and ruining the skins. New wine is stored in new wineskins so that both are preserved." The new wineskin depicted in this painting is labelled, "Righteousness". Because the parable of the wineskin is a metaphor for a new life in Christ, righteousness is the only way to "put on" new life. Blooms were added to the top of this painting as another way of symbolizing new life.
